how to read the vote chart

every card on the board has a chart of visitors' votes. four steps, one minute.

example drawing · not real data

the drawing needs javascript. the four steps below say the same thing.

14 days of an invented card. up = follows, down = fades and avoids.
  1. each candle is one UTC day of visitors' votes.

a card on the feed shows the last 14 days; its post page shows 30.

  2. it opens at the day before's close.

the chart is the card's running net: each day starts where the day before ended, so the last close is the card's net votes.

  3. up to the high = follows; down to the low = fades and avoids.

the wick reaches up by that day's follows and down by its fades and avoids. the body is the day's net: teal and filled when it went up, amber and hollow when it went down.

  4. these are votes. they don't track the price.

anonymous votes can be farmed (a cleared browser or a new network gets a new vote), so the counts are a signal of what visitors clicked, not a census of people. vote bursts are left out unless you include them.

an example post

posted 2 d ago · #4 among devs by votes

  1. the number between the arrows is the post's net votes: follows minus fades and avoids. it is the chart's last close.
  2. the strip under the name is the same chart, small: the last 14 UTC days.
  3. open the post for 30 days, each day's counts and the comments.
